New York Medieval Society Teaching Award

The New York Medieval Society Teaching Award will support educators who have designed a pedagogical program to introduce students to the Middle Ages. This might involve organizing trips for students to visit museum and library collections, designing a series of lectures, seminars, or reading groups for students, or developing extracurricular activities intended to edify students in any area of medieval studies. The NYMS will consider applications from teachers (K-12) and faculty in higher education, and will encourage proposals focused on inclusivity and widening educational opportunities for students who might benefit from increased guidance and more frequent occasions to study the Middle Ages. Recipients of the award will receive up to $3,000.

Please make sure to follow these instructions carefully to ensure that the application is received and processed. Compile the following documents into a single file, labeled with the applicant’s first and last name:

  1.  A project description that includes a detailed description of the pedagogical program the applicant means to implement. The proposal should include precise information about the intended venues and audience, as well as a reflection on how the program would effectively introduce students to the culture of the Middle Ages.
  2.  A timeline of the program.
  3.  The applicant’s Curriculum Vitae.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Please direct any questions to Gillian Adler, President of the NYMS Board, at gadler@nymedieval.org.
